Success Stories: Radiation Hardened Miniaturized Digital Attitude Control System

Company Space Micro Incorporated (San Diego, CA)
Technology Hardened and miniaturized driver electronics for proportional controlled Divert Attitude Control System (DACS) used in Ballistic Missile Defense System interceptors.
Description Space Micro utilized advanced Commercial-Off-The-Shelf parts to both improve packaging and increase radiation mitigation on their electronic driver module to meet High Altitude Exo-atmospheric Nuclear Survivability, MDA-STD-001A, Level two specifications. Space Micro demonstrated their techniques can reduce costs of radiation hardening without decrease in performance or delays in schedule while still being affordable and manufacturable. The Radiation Hardened Valve/Relay Driver Board (SM-VRD-1000) is designed specifically for space applications and conductive cooling.
MDA Use The radiation hardened miniaturized DACS module can be integrated into multiple interceptor systems that are used in space and harsh radiation environments. The DACS is used to maneuver the interceptor to its target. Space Micro's technology can be implemented affordably with optional anti-tamper technology. Space hardened versions are also available for high total dose missions.
Insertion Opportunity Space Micro provides a radiation hardened miniaturized DACS driver electronics that may be implemented affordably in the Standard Missile — 3 Block IB, IIA and potentially IIB.
